ABOUT ME
Riho is a drummer, percussionist and composer.
She was born in Chiba, Japan. At three years of age, she began with piano. While playing percussion in her middle school wind orchestra the conductor asked her to play drums, which was the start of her life as a drummer.
Riho performed with that band as a leading performer and featured soloist in the world-premiere performance in 2011 at the WASBE (World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) 15th International Conference in Taiwan. Their performances were covered extensively by various media in Asia such as The Epoch Times Taiwan, Sankei Shimbun, Chayi City Art News, and Taiwanese government website by Ministry of Culture.
After earning bachelors in business in Chuo University in Japan, her passion for music brought her to New York City to study at The Collective School of Music. As local musicians became aware of her talent, invitations began to come in to perform as a guest in New York clubs. She has appeared at venues such as The Cutting Room, The Bitter End, Club Bonafide, The Groove, Rockwood Music Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, Connolly’s, Shrine, Silvana, Desmond’s Tavern, Sidewalk NYC and more. Groups such as Music Makers, Gadee, and Francesca Love & The Beating Hearts have had Riho as a guest. Her debut album as a leader “Error” with her compositions was released December 2019.
